Preseason Football Is A Waste Of Time For The Real Fans
The one thing that I hate about the NFL is preseason football games. I just don't get why they have these games at all. Sure it gives you a chance to see some of the up and coming players but do I as a season ticket holder have to suffer through meaningless games for that. You can guess that I don't go to the games but I have to pay top dollar for the tickets anyway. I hear what you are thinking, we need to see who will step up and make the team under game conditions. I am sorry but that what scrimmages are for. Let two teams plan a scrimmage for a Wednesday afternoon and leave the fans out of it. There is no reason for preseason games at all. If the NFL needs the money that bad let them expand the schedule to 18 games or something. There is no way that any fan is going to go out of there way to drive a few hours after work to attend a game that doesn't mean anything in the standings. The players hate it because they are risking injury, the last thing the NFL needs is a star player getting hurt in a preseason game. As I am writing this I am reading about the Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis separating his shoulder. I don't know about you but that hurts and once you do it once it usually happens again. I hope he makes a full recovery. The other thing that gets me mad is the television coverage of these games. Since I am an out of town fan and I live in New York City I am forced to watch the Jets or the Giants even though the Atlanta Falcons - New England Patriots game was a nationally televised game everywhere else in the country. The NFL really needs to stop this practice as their fans are not as home based as they think. All my friends are not fans of the New York teams. Actually I know more out of market fans then I do fans of either New York team. Most of my friends hate the fact that the Jets and Giants are not New York teams since they play in New Jersey. I am sure there were more New England Patriots fans that wanted to see their team play then there were Jets fans that wanted to see Chad Pennington get hurt again. What really got me mad was they switched to the Falcons game after the Jet game was over. I got to watch the 4th quarter of the game I wanted to see in the first place. By this time both teams were on their 3rd or even 4th squad on the depth chart. I am a season ticket holder and I have the Direct TV package for away games but I can't watch the game even if I wanted to as it was not broadcast in New York that is just wrong. I can't even catch a replay of the game on the NFL Network as it seems to be the only game that is not being shown in a rerun. |
